"We purchased shares in a rental/strata property in Whistler B.C. several years ago with the understanding maintenance and re-furbishment was held to 5 Star standards. Homes obviously endure normal wear and tear however the board hired trades simply did not have the skills and knowledge to perform the necessary preventative and restorative work. The slate floors were deeply gouged in many areas, heavily worn door frames and baseboards, badly stained counters and floor surfaces, worn faucets, a completely inadequate and worn out water heater.... the list goes on. Eventually we bought out the other owners and stepped away from the inept system that saw our shared home drastically deteriorate and continually lose value. Our goal was to bring back the value of our home without having to fully gut and renovate all the rooms, though our friends and family now swear we did.
